MIST

Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), the pioneer Technical Institutes of Armed Forces, started its journey from 19 April 1998. It was the visionary leadership of the Honourable Prime Minister of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina to establish a Technical Institute of Armed Forces. Accordingly, the Honourable Prime Minister, People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina unveiled the Foundation Plaque on 19 April 1998. MIST is located at Mirpur Cantonment, which is on the northwest of Dhaka City. Mirpur Cantonment is well known to be as an Education Village of Bangladesh Armed Forces, a hub of knowledge for military and civil professionals.

 

MIST envisages creating facilities for military as well as civil students from home and abroad dedicated to pursue standard curriculum leading to Graduation Degree. As an Institution without any gender biasness, MIST is already on steady stride upholding its motto “Technology for Advancement”. MIST remains committed to contributing to the wider spectrum of National Educational Arena and play a significant role in the development of Human Resources and ardently pursuing its goal to grow into a “Centre of Excellence”.

 

MIST has well equipped class rooms with multimedia and web camera with internet facilities and Laboratories with modern equipment. The medium of instruction for all engineering programs is English. All academic programs of MIST are affiliated with the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and have close cooperation with Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Dhaka University (DU).

 

Intake of students in each of the B.Sc. Engineering Program of CE, CSE, EECE, ME, AE, and NAME at undergraduate level is 65 (except in NAME dept, where it is 30). Academic Session of MIST normally starts in the last week of January. Admission process starts in September/October and Admission Test held in November every year. Admission formalities are completed by December/January. The total number of intake in a year is 355. In general a maximum of 50% seats are allocated to Armed Forces Officers.

 

MIST has other miscellaneous facilities such as Medical Centre, Fitness Centre, Cyber Café, Broadband Internet facilities, Library and Students’ Accommodation (Male & Female). Out of six programs, so far four departments of MIST namely CE, EECE, ME and CSE have achieved accreditation from BAETE (IEB) which is certainly considered to be a pronounced achievement for its academic excellence in national and international arena.

1. Security money will not be refunded if a student terminates his study prematurely within one year. However, if the vacancy can be filled up during admission process, 75% of the security money may be refunded.

2. Security money will be termed as 'Caution Money' after one year of studentship and will be refunded after successful completion of course/program.

Notes:

1.  Meritorious and poor students will be granted scholarship and stipend out of the Students' Welfare Fund.

2.  All fees will be forfeited if admission is withdrawn before completing one year study at MIST for any reason.

3.  Civil student desirous to stay in hired civil hostel has to pay one year house rent in advance, which will be refunded on successful completion of study program. Advance house rent will not be refunded to those students who will be withdrawn from the program for any reason.

A fine @ TK 25 per 15 days will be incurred for late deposition of fees. If a student fails to clear dues within three months of the stipulated time mentioned above, his/her name will be dropped and the student has to apply for re-admission should he/she desires to continue.

 

Student Hall:

MIST, in principle is a residential institute. Right now MIST has only one Student Hall. The name of the modern residential hall is “Osmany Hall”. It was established in 2006. Osmany Hall is an 8 storey building with female and male wings, each wing having a capacity of 260 students. There are 20 staffs for each wing. The hall building accommodates a number of offices to facilitate the administrative works. Osmany Hall is known for the security of the students compared to the other hall in the country. Both Wings has well equipped Dinning Hall where quality foods are served. For providing necessary services and to meet the requirements of the resident students the hall is also equipped with all mandatory allied facilities such as 24 hour electricity, internet service, gym, common room (With TV & Music corner and indoor games), reading room, prayer room, laundry service, indoor and outdoor games and sports items, etc.
